No Way Out

There was no bang as the
heavy metal door was
slammed shut
and the bolt turned;
No echo throughout the empty room.
There was only silence,
its shock waves rupturing my eardrums,
causing them to bleed
and a ringing to flood my brain
until I was drowning in all the noise.
This wasn't safety.
This was risk.
A calculated attempt to find shelter
in the midst of intrusive thoughts
that knocked me to my knees...
Betrayed,
Beaten,
Broken,
trying to regain control of my disorganized mind
but watching it slip further away
with each passing second.
Motionless in a desolate room,
held hostage by forget-me-nots,
the consuming waves
of what once was but is no more,
except in my mind,
where past and present collide, fracturing into
a future too fragile to imagine.
Imprisoned in a room,
abandoned to my thoughts...
No hope,
No peace,
No way out.
