No Blame
I forgive you, little one,
Can you forgive yourself?
Possibly the hardest question
To ask of someone else
Especially a 5-year-old
Who never was to blame
Regardless of the fact
She still struggles with her shame
She did no wrong
She just survived
And held it all within
But hiding is not a crime
And silence is not a sin
No matter what she was told
She was not party to the guilt
And yet deep down those feelings live
And she believes them still
All because she didn’t tell
She didn’t ask for help
Her fear kept her quiet
Not trusting someone else
So she waits, always trapped
By reproach she feels inside
Her pain won’t let her go
There’s nowhere left to hide
