Life in the Dark

Evil happened in that room
Where angels feared to tread,
Darkness being more than lack of light.
Silence in this deep tomb
Focused on his bed,
Where I lay helpless in the blackest night.
Touch, as he lay next to me,
Began my path of fear.
He used me to satisfy his wants.
Knowing that he held the key
To my childhood years,
He hid behind a friendly, helpful front.
Today, my body's mine,
Nevermore to steal.
With every breath, my story I now tell.
How every wound that he inflicted will someday heal.
The best revenge?
Living my life well.
