A Wish Is Born

"Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight..."
Oh, a star to grant my wish
To wash away this storm,
To take me to another world
That's good, and safe, and warm,
A place where visions of the past
Can only come when bidden,
Where darkest terrors of my mind
Can somehow remain hidden,
But lightning splits the moonless sky,
And thunder answers back.
Wind swirls and pounces with a scream
As if here to attack.
A thousand days could pass right now
While I am lost in night,
Anxiously awaiting morn,
The sun to bring me light.
For now I'm drowning in the grasp
Of stormy waters' flow,
Trying hard to take a breath
Amidst this frenzied foe,
Waiting for my star to come,
When I will close my eyes,
And make a wish, born out of hope,
To finally see blue skies.
